The Qur’an in its own words – Surah 4:101-176: Jesus did not die; God does not have a son

As I make my way through the Qur’an I’m picking out verses that reveal the differences between Islamic beliefs and the Hebrew/ Christian scriptures.  Here are some examples from my latest readings:

Shortening your prayer/curtailing your worship of Allah is OK where it is “politically” expedient due to “disbelievers”:

And when ye go forth in the land, it is no sin for you to curtail (your) worship if ye fear that those who disbelieve may attack you. In truth the disbelievers are an open enemy to you.   4:101

When you commit sin, you are committing it only against yourself (not Allah):

Whoso committeth sin committeth it only against himself. Allah is ever Knower, Wise. 4:111

Allah leads people astray and arouses sinful desires in people:

And I will mislead them, and I will arouse in them [sinful] desires… 4:119

Allah is accommodating of divorce, quite a contrast from YHWH, who “hates divorce”:

But if they separate [by divorce], Allah will enrich each [of them] from His abundance…. 4:130

Allah commands Muslims not to take unbelievers as friends:

O ye who believe! Take not for friends unbelievers… 4:144

Jesus was not crucified or killed per the Qur’an, despite the clear testimony of the Bible:

And [for] their saying, “Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah .” And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.  4:157

Jesus will be against the people who believed in Him on the ‘Day of Resurrection’:

And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in Jesus before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection he will be against them a witness.  4:159

God made some food off-limits for the Jews because of their wrongdoing:

For wrongdoing on the part of the Jews, We made unlawful for them [certain] good foods which had been lawful to them, and for their averting from the way of Allah many [people]  4:160

The Qur’an usurps the major figures of the Hebrew and Christian scriptures for Allah:

Lo! We inspire thee as We inspired Noah and the prophets after him, as We inspired Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and Jesus and Job and Jonah and Aaron and Solomon, and as We imparted unto David the Psalms  4:163

The Qur’an militates against a Trinitarian God:

The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and say not “Three” – Cease! (it is) better for you! – Allah is only One Allah. Far is it removed from His Transcendent Majesty that He should have a son.  4:171
